They’re the new kids on the block, and they’ve been rockin’up the charts with their debut single, 4ever. We thought it was time to find out the loves, the hates and the everything-in-between of the Veronicas!!!

Is your band name really from Veronica in the Archie comis?
Lisa & Jess: YAY! It totally is. We love Veronica!
Lisa: She’s got attitude, she’s a rich bitch, she gets the guy, she’s got a cool vibe. We were tossing around names, and over the years we’ve wondered what to call ourselves, and being twins it can get a little tacky.
Jess: We wanted to be really careful about that.
Lisa: We wanted to get something really cool and wanted it to be something that was us and Jess was like, ‘How about the Veronicas’, and we were both like, ‘Yeah that’s awesome’.

What bands do you listen to?
Jess: The Used, My Chemical Romance. I get into heavier stuff than Lisa.
Lisa: I like Top 40 stuff! We love bands- ACDC, INXS, Skyhooks. We love Michael Jackson, The Black Eyed Peas, The Ramones- we get into everything.

What are you addicted to?
Lisa & Jess: 24! We have these big nights are our house on Mondays where we watch 24! Johnny Depp, The Used, Tim Tams, black nail polish, hoop earrings, fashion in general, there’s heaps!

Do you get sick of constantly being around each other?
Lisa & Jess: It’s the best and the worst thing.
Lisa: It’s good to have someone going through the same things as you, but at the same time, it can get very hard. Back in LA we actually shared a bed!

At school were you tomboys or cool girls?
Lisa & Jess: You know how at school there’s like punks, nerds, homies? We sort of hung out with everyone- we just wanted to have fun!

Do you get lots of comparisons to each other famous sisters?
Lisa: We haven’t really- we get compared to the Olsen twins sometimes. We’re like the darker version of the Olsen twins, the rocky version. I’m sure there will be comparisons later.

Are you worried that you need to be perfect role models?
Jess: Not really. It’s cool to be a bit outspoken and not all prim and proper. There are certain age groups where you have to be careful.

Are you both single girls?
Jess: That’s the question, isn’t it? I’m not but Lisa pretty much is.
Lisa: I’ve started seeing someone, not seriously, it’s a guy I’m really good friends with.
Jess: I have a boyfriend back here in Australia which makes it difficult.

Are you opinionated?
Lisa: We speak our mind a lot. Jess is a bit foot-in-mouth at times- she’ll say something without meaning it that may tick people off.
Jess: I have my opinions. We’re more opinionated about our music, how we’re represented. Being signed to a major label is great, but we want people to understand who we are and we get our point across, so we’re not manufactured.

4ever is quite rocky- do you have any mellow songs?
Lisa & Jess: We like melodies that are kind of kooky, but it needs to have that edge. We like mixing things that shouldn’t be mixed together. We like pretty melodies over heavy guitars or hard lyrics over pretty music. We’re like that with our fashion too. We’re always mixing things.
Jess: We spend so much money on clothes when we travel. There’s some great stuff on Melrose Ave. We love vintage stuff too.
